Several notable activities occurred during the first day of the 90th Kansas FFA Convention, including the 17th Annual Career Show, leadership workshops, and Something to Eat­–a service event where thousands of meals were packaged to be donated to those in need.

The opening session of the convention kicked off at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, May. 30. Here’s a look back at what happened during the session.

Dr. David Nichols from the Dept. of Animal Sciences and Industry welcomed the Kansas FFA convention attendees to campus.

14 new FFA chapters received their charters at the session.

Clay Brillhart from the Uniontown FFA chapter took first place in the FFA Creed Public Speaking Leadership Development Event.

The session also recognized the five chapters celebrating their 100th anniversary, Arkansas City High School, Chapman High School, Fort Scott High School, Garden City High School, and Tonganoxie High School.

Marie Reveles delivered the state secretary’s retiring address. Read the speech “Smile.”

Having the U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Sonny Perdue address convention attendees was a highlight of the session. He was introduced by our 47th Kansas Governor, Jeff Coyler.

So with the first day done, we thank you for a mighty fine first day of the convention! Don’t forget we start the second session Thursday, May 31 at 8:30 a.m.
