Maize FFA Member Wins Extemporaneous Public Speaking Contest

Brandon Carp, from the Maize FFA chapter, was announced the winner of the Kansas FFA Extemporaneous Public Speaking Leadership Development Event (LDE) at the 90th Kansas FFA Convention, May 30–June 1, 2018, on the Kansas State University campus.

This LDE challenges members to present on a current agricultural issue after only 30 minutes of preparation. Carp’s speech focused on “what action steps the U.S. agriculture industry should take to ensure an adequate labor force.”

By winning at the state level, Carp is eligible to compete in the National Extemporaneous Speaking LDE at the 2018 National FFA Convention in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Cale Patterson, Norton FFA, placed second; Scuyler Zenger, Washington County FFA, placed third; and Alan Hinds, Tonganoxie FFA, placed fourth.
