Third Session in Review

Member across the state continue to showcase their skills and achievements at the 90th Kansas FFA Convention. At 2 p.m. on Thursday, May 31, 2018, the third session brought further excitement and awards for members and supporters. Here’s a recap of the session.

The second half of the state proficiency award winners were recognized on stage from Agricultural Communications through Environmental Science and Natural Resources.

Riley Sleichter delivered the state reporter’s retiring address. Read the speech, “Living in the Moment.”

The Kansas FFA Foundation Sponsors were celebrated for helping to raise more than $600,000 this past year. A big THANK YOU goes to all who support the FFA Foundation and our 9,579 Kansas FFA members.

Dr. Don Boggs, Associate Dean of Academic Programs, at the K-State College of Agriculture is recognized as a sponsor. The College of Agriculture is a 4 star sponsor of Kansas FFA.

The Logan FFA Chapter won the Scrapbook award.

The Ellsworth FFA Chapter won the Chapter Initiative award. This award is based on challenges that pushed chapters to highlight each circle of the FFA model—FFA, SAE, and classroom.  Challenges included writing news articles about the curriculum studied in their Ag Ed classes, SAE presentations, and collecting pop tabs for the state service project.

Peyton Horn from the Chapman FFA Chapter won the Employment Skills Leadership Development Event.

The Chapman FFA Chapter was awarded first place in the National Chapter Award area of Growing Leaders. See the entire gold division rankings.

  • Gabe Knechtel, Inman FFA chapter
  • Katie Krehbiel, Inman FFA chapter
  • Ally Leslie, Inman FFA chapter
  • Collin Wedel, Inman FFA chapter
  • Kaylee Wedel, Inman FFA chapter

There were 225 scholarships which were awarded to FFA members this year. We recognized the members who were the recipients of the more than $160,000 given in support of their education or personal development.

  • 28 members received scholarships to attend the Washington Leadership Conference scholarships
  • 8 members received scholarships from Orscheln Farm & Home
  • 60 members received scholarships from Ford Trucks/Built Ford Tough
  • 7 members received scholarships from John Deere
  • 115 members received scholarships through National FFA with a total of $152,500

The ten finalist for the John Deere Gator drawing were selected.
