Pull your hat down, get back on, run your race to win in life, and let’s ride!

The first general session of the 91st Kansas FFA Convention began at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, May 29, 2019, in the McCain Auditorium on the campus of Kansas State University. As the opening gavel taps rang out, the more than 1,800 members began their ride through “Just One” state convention. A theme of empowerment–Just One state, Just One chapter, and Just One member has the ability to strengthen agriculture, build communities, and grow leaders.

Jansen Penny, KSU student body president, welcomed attendees to campus.

Six new FFA chapters received their charters: Ashland, Chanute, Kiowa County, Lakin, Mulvane, and Shawnee Heights.

Molly Foote from the Hoxie FFA chapter took first place in the FFA Creed Public Speaking Leadership Development Event (LDE).

Michael Dowd delivered the state vice president’s retiring address. Read the speech “Something More.”

The Girard FFA chapter received recognition as the winning team for the Parliamentary Procedure LDE. For the Novice Parliamentary Procedure LDE, the Labette County FFA chapter was awarded first place.

In the Leadership Quiz Bowl, the Norton FFA chapter took the victory.

The Inman FFA chapter secured the top honors in the Ritual Demonstration LDE.

Kansas FFA members and chapters from across the state were highlighted for their successes at the state level in Career Development Events (CDEs) and will advance to compete at the 2019 National FFA Convention in Indianapolis this October. In addition, the state CDE high individual scholarship recipients were recognized.

The coveted recognition of the CDE Sweepstakes winner was given to the Louisburg FFA chapter. Second place was awarded to Labette County, third to Spring Hill, fourth to Ottawa, and fifth to Washington County.

The final student recognition of the session was the presentation of the STIHL Outdoor Power Equipment Nursery/Landscape Scholarships to the following students: Hallie Hutsell, Faith Seuferling, Hattie Harris, and Addie Katzer–all from the Louisburg FFA chapter.

The session was concluded by hearing the remarks from Cord McCoy, three time contestant of the Amazing Race and professional bronc rider. “Go in the race to win but know what you are racing for.”

Following the session, members were able to attend the Randall King convention concert at The Hat in Aggieville.
